Weldon Spring Site Interpretive Center
Located in the Missouri countryside, at 7295 MO-94, St Charles, MO 63304, Weldon Spring Site Interpretive Center offers an eight-mile nature trail and history of the area. While the historical information is fascinating, the nature preserve also has prairie views. A visit to the center will help you appreciate the local environment and learn more about the area. The prairie views will be a welcome change from the concrete buildings of downtown St Charles. While you’re there, you can take advantage of the 8-mile trail and enjoy the scenic surroundings.
The 9,000-square-foot Interpretive Center is located in the former waste disposal cell. This facility has plaques detailing the history of the area and its role in our nation’s history. You’ll also be able to tour the old radioactive laboratory and see the building where workers were once checked for radiation. There’s also a viewing platform in the interpretive center, which gives you a good view of the surrounding area.
Weldon Spring is a DOE LM Site made up of a former Quarry and Chemical Plant. It played an important role in the nation’s history and is now revitalized for beneficial reuse as a community educational center.
